Our wind and waterproof jackets have fully taped seams and our unique waterproof Equtex ™ membrane. Our upholstered jackets have all the 3M Thinsulate filling that is made to mimic down. This means you get a warm jacket that is easy to care for while no animals are harmed. Our collection is built on the three-layer principle and the jackets are the layer three that is your protection against the weather and wind that allows you together with your horse, whatever the weather, can perform optimally.

How can my riding jacket breathe?
Our waterproof riding jacket and riding coats have a membrane called Equtex™ that protects you from rain and snow while allowing excess body heat and moisture be released.
An ultra-thin film is laminated (glued under pressure) to the inside of the outer fabric. This film contains microscopic holes that are large enough to release water molecules (perspiration) in the form of steam (transpiration) from our body. However, they are too small to let in 1 000 times larger water drops from rain or snow. The difference in temperature and the so-called steam pressure between the inside and outside of the fabric is what drives the steam (perspiration) out through the fabric. This is called breathability and the technology that keeps you comfortable.

What is Equtex?
When you see a garment with the EQUTEX™ logo, you can be assured that a lot of thought and work went into the process of choosing and combining the right outer fabric with the right membrane. To create a garment that allows you to perform with your horse at your very best no matter the conditions. Our EQUTEX™ fabrics are based on a membrane technology and used in our high performance garments, allowing the outer fabric to be waterproof while maintaining high levels of breathability. Stierna’s EQUTEX™ garments not only protect you from the elements, but also manage moisture and maintain proper heat balance to keep you dry, an important part of staying comfortable. Breathable outerwear allows moisture to evaporate rather than trapping it against the body.

EQUTEX™ garments are waterproof yet breathable. This protects the user from rain while keeping the body cool and dry by wicking away body moisture.

EQUTEX™ are different membranes combined with carefully chosen outer-fabrics to create combinations to meet specific requirements.
All seams on an EQUTEX™ garment are tape-sealed
All EQUTEX™ garments are treated with an Eco-friendly fluorocarbon-free DWR-treatment.
EQUTEX™ garments withstand a water pressure* of minimum 10 000 mm.
EQUTEX™ garments have a breathability** of minimum 10 000 g/m2/24h.

*Waterproofness is measured in water column, i.e. the pressure a fabric can take before it starts to leak. The higher the water column, expressed in mm, the more pressure the fabric can withstand.

** Breathability is measured in the number of grams of water a square meter of fabric can release in 24 hours, g/m2/24h. The higher the figure, the more moisture is released.

How do I take care of my waterproof riding jacket?
Taking care of your clothes is good for both the environment and your wallet.
In order for you to get the most out of your garment, you need to give it a little care. In addition to ensuring the intended function, you also extend the life of your riding clothes so less of the earth's resources are used to manufacture new ones. It is perhaps the biggest environmental benefit of all.

Taking care of technical riding clothes is not difficult and by washing properly you extend the life of your clothes considerably. An important part of a textile product's total environmental impact is related to how long the product can be used before it is worn out, how it is cared for and finally how it is taken care of when it can no longer be used for its original purpose. By extending the life of a garment, where it can be used twice as long, the climate impact is reduced by 49% *. Choosing clothes that are durable and that are made from recycled / recyclable fibers is thus a good start.

Do not use fabric softener as they degrade the performance of the garments and have a negative impact on the environment. The fabric softener settles as a film on the fabric fibers, which impairs moisture transport and breathability. Some of the substances found in fabric softeners are difficult to degrade for nature and are harmful to aquatic organisms. They also contain perfumes and substances that can cause allergic reactions.

Make sure that all zippers and velro closures are closed, to reduce the risk of the fabrics getting stuck during washing. A laundry bag protects clothes and fabrics from unnecessary wear and tear in the washing machine. It is also a way to limit leakage of microfiber in the washing process, which means that plastic particles do not get into lakes and seas. You can buy the GuppyFriend laundry bag here in our web shop.

Most outerwear has an impregnation called DWR - durable water repellency. The purpose is to make the outer fabric water-repellent. When the treatment wears out, the outer fabric will start to get wet, even if the membrane still stops water from passing through the garment. When this happens, you can easily reapply the impregnation to the entire garment with a wash-in. We recommend Nikvax washing detergent and wash-in that you can buy in our web shop.

How do I find the right size for my riding jacket?
Sometimes it is difficult to find the right size when you buy clothes online? Use our size guide to make sure you get the right fit on your new riding jacket or riding coat. Based on your body measurements and compare with the tables to find the right size. The Stiernas garments are generally made for a close-fitting fit to maximize moisture transport and warmth. Our garments have an ergonomic design made to follow the body's movement pattern, this is sometimes called "bodymapping". This means that you have full freedom of movement in all situations.
